Lake Geneva in Switzerland and France

Lake Geneva, or Lac Leman as the French call it is truly beautiful. It runs from the magic Swiss city of Geneva along the coast of Switzerland and yes, France. To do so Geneva Lake’s coastline touches many towns and cities, both big and small and both Swiss and French. Try Lausanne and Montreaux for example on the Swiss side and Thonon and Evian in France.
For the purposes of this story I am in Bouveret at the moment staying on the shores of the Lake in the wonderful Hotel and Restaurant Rive Bleue.So I am going to tell you a bit about this hotel mainly because it is so nice a three-star entry, but also because it is run by an Austrian called Helmut. So there. Anyway Helmut was one of the founders of the Lagune chain and it now stands at no less than six restaurants and at least one hotel we know of. So this story is about Bouveret not far from Aigle as the train tracks. I am sitting in the dining room of the Rive Bleue in Bouveret overlooking the lake; and what a great site it is. I think tomorrow I will photograph and ride the boat all the way to Geneva from where I will make my way to yet another beautiful mountain resort in Italy, Courmayeur on the Italian side of Mont Blanc.
Anyway back to Bouveret and its neighboring bigger towns and cities of Montreaux, Aigle, Evian and Martigny. Heck lets concentrate on Bouveret for the purposes of this scribble. The lake has all it could possibly offer, especially during the summer months. There is a huge sailing community as one might expect, but Bouveret is an ideal center to explore the surrounding countryside whether it by by bike, train, boat or car. In winter this is a great spot from which to ski the nearby mountains too. Get it? Got it? Lake Geneva and Bouveret has it all.
