Research published in The Independent last week showed that ‘solidays’, holidays for solo travellers, are more popular than ever*. This trend is being reflected in the snowsports market with specialist tour operator Ski Freshtracks reporting a rise in the number of bookings made by solo skiers.
70% of Ski Freshtracks holidays are booked by skiers travelling on their own due to their unique social concept. This concept is perfect for solo skiers as all trips are organised by skiing standard and the focus is on skiing in groups of like-minded skiers and socialising together in the evening. The holidays range from weeks or weekends of cruising the pistes to off piste powder adventures, ski touring and once in a lifetime heli-skiing trips.
Caroline Boileau, General Manager of Ski Freshtracks says, “For many people our holidays are a saviour, especially for those people whose friends or family are a different standard, or cannot ski at the same time as them. Our detailed ski ability grading system ensures that skiers are in small groups with others of the same level, and this group ethos almost always carries on into the evenings. Ski Freshtracks is about getting together to share in the passion of snowsports and adventure, and that is why so many people have no qualms about joining our trips on their own.”
All Ski Freshtracks holidays are accompanied by volunteer Ski Club reps who travel with the groups, leading them on snow and ensuring the holidays run as smoothly and as sociably as possible.
Several holidays in the Ski Freshtracks programme also offer single rooms with no extra charge and many hotels have the option of rooms being booked for single occupancy.
