The popular golfing destinations of Scotland and Ireland are starting to feel theeffects of the global recession, according to KPMG’s recent Golf Benchmark Report.
Companies are spending less on entertaining their clients to a day, or weekend, onthe golf course, and there is a slump in bookings for corporate days – even at coursesl ike Gleneagles in Perthshire, which is set to host the 2014 Ryder Cup. Golf-club membership is one of the items that come under close scrutiny in an economic downturn, and some clubs will be forced to close – including Dublin’s Luttrellstown II. Castle Resort and Harbour Point near Cork which have both said they will close in2009.
