The times they are a changin'

Look around this Matterhorn dominated resort (Zermatt for the uniniated) and you will see and feel the winds of change if not actually howling through the many 4,000 meter plus peaks then certainally whistling loudly. Lest ye forget this resort was once the domain of a handful of families almost exclusively Swiss and predominately local. Wow, take a look now. The place has an almost new personna both in the rapid pace of modernization and growth as well as in the explosion of nationalities in workers and entrapeneurs. Hoteliers too are busy upgrading and refurbishing and the national bird of the Matterhorn resort seems to be the building crane. Such is the extent of new buildings being constructed on almost every available space. Wow, wow, wow. Hotels are now supervised by the offspring of the parents that had both the forestight and determination to build and grow them into world leaders. Service staff is largely from Italy, Portugal and the Slavic countries and there are too many non Swiss managing some of the best hotels. What indeed is this resort coming to? A great International destination from all angles, that's what. However some things never change. The Matterhorn is still the draw, atill the best show in town. It is to the credit of the Zermatters that they saw these changes coming and welcomed diversity both in increased input from many nationalities and the need to continously upgrade their resort and services.
